How does it work?

Our brains produce brainwaves of different frequencies which correspond to different states and behaviors. Delta is the slowest - the brainwave activity during sleep or a coma and Gamma is the fastest - the brainwave activity during peak performance/focus.

A well regulated brain can switch between the different states given the environment/situation. The ideal scenario is to be in higher wave states while focussing on a task and then switch to the lower frequency states to recover. This is not the reality for most people. Dysregulation of the brain’s regulatory mechanism is often behind conditions such as; ADHD, autistic spectrum disorders, depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar and personality disorders, anger, migraines, epilepsy, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and post-cancer cognitive impairment.

How can we improve the brain’s ability to regulate? Through neuroplasticity - the brain’s lifelong ability to reorganize by forming new neural connections. One way to help form new neural connections is Neurofeedback.

Neurofeedback is a type of Biofeedback. It is non-invasive and involves placing sensors on the scalp to measure the brain’s electrical activity called EEG (electroencephalography), then it can provide feedback based on what is measured. This process enables users to understand when their brain is producing a particular frequency and to help to up-train the production of that frequency thus creating a new neural pathway.

On our 15 day Rēset Programs, we use QEEG brain mapping to measure the electrical activity at 19 different points of the brain and combine that information with symptom assessments to create a personalized Neurofeedback Protocol.

We offer two types of Neurofeedback training. Our preferred method is NeuroMeditation created by Jeff Tarrant, a Psychologist and Neurofeedback Practitioner. NeuroMeditation uses feedback from the EEG readings to help the user to understand when they are in the desired meditative state. The feedback expedites results and many guests realize what they were doing in their meditation sessions previously actually wasn’t meditation. The feedback serves as a disruptor and our facilitators can interrupt sessions when the brain starts to wander, which expedites the formation of new neural connections. NeuroMeditation predominately works to regulate Alpha waves to promote a deep state of relaxation and to get out of the narrow focus that is common in Sympathetic Dominance (chronic activation of the fight/flight/freeze response). We like this training method because guests can continue to practice and reap benefits after the program ends, without the need for sensors or expensive sessions.

Alternatively guests can train specific areas of the brain that were identified during the QEEG brain map as the areas that require the most improvement. Audio and/or visual cues are used to give feedback to the user when they are producing the desired frequency to retrain the neural pathway in a way that improves cognitive function.

Neurofeedback works synergistically with our other modalities designed to help to regulate the nervous system to improve mental and physical wellbeing.
